Anchor Scarf
Maybe it's all the rowing we've been watching at the Olympics but we're feeling the love for all things nautical. This Anchor scarf from designer Thomas Paul is a perfect nod to our Summer athletes and yet we think it would still make us feel slightly like social climbing Hamptonites all at the same time which could be a fun departure from reality. Available through his website here.
Tombox Speakers by Diefabrik
There is no shortages of portable speaker solutions available for your choice of media device. Many are soulless and cheap pieces of hastily designed crap ready to cash in and become your next office party secret Santa gift. There are also plenty of stylish über expensive versions for the audiophile in all of us, and will most likely be relegated only to our dreams. Then there is the Tombox. Pricewise they fall right in the middle, design wise they are delightfully retro and will suit any decor, and because they are made from recycled speakers and whatnot, they will appeal to the green upcycler in all of us. They are all different, and there are many to choose from. You can get one, and see and learn more here.

Trailer - Jiro Dreams of Sushi
This is just out for purchase and rental this week. A documentary the follows a small sushi restaurant in a Tokyo subway tunnel, the chef that is the proprietor, and the son that is to fill his father's impossibly large shoes. Why are the shoes so big you ask? Well, Jiro just happens to be the only sushi chef in the world to be awarded 3 Michelin Stars. Out on DVD and Blu-Ray, and available for purchase and rent through iTunes.
Spin Clean LP Washer
We'll start by saying that if you consider yourself even the slightest fan of music, then you should really get yourself a turntable and spend some time with other music geeks flipping through musty volumes of classic 70's rock. Really and truly...and not just to sounds elitist, but those albums sound better on vinyl then on the more modern digital formats. Think about...they were engineered and mastered with the turntable in mind...not the CD, and definitely not the MP3. However, the hiss and crackle you hear that some find warm, charming and quaint sounding actually isn't supposed to the be there. All those noises are the sounds of dirt and grime in the the record's grooves making it's way through the cartridge and tone arm to your speakers. If you can live with it, then fine. However, you'd be amazed at how much better a clean LP will sound. The brushes are fine in a pinch, but for a truly clean record you need to wash it, and the Spin Clean is an affordable and super effective method. So set some time next weekend, and let's get Dylan and the Stones sounding like nature intended. More info available here.

May28th Two Tone Watch
We can't help being drawn to colourful fashion choices during the warmer months. Granted we usually only venture into the brighter hues with our accessory choices but that counts regardless. May28th has a great line of very affordable fun and bright watches that you can find through Leif.
Lolita Skull Flask
The combination of the wedding season and our love of skulls results in the perfect gift, a Lolita Skull Flask. For reasons we can't fully understand, it is tradition to give the men in the wedding party a flask even though we challenge you to tell us the last time you saw anyone actually using one. So instead of fighting the tradition, we implore you to at least try to make it cooler and infuse a little stream punk attitude into your gift. Available here.

Converse Chuck Taylor Moto Leather
For fall 2012, Converse has decided to move the timeless appeal of the motorcycle leather jacket over onto their classic, unisex and equally timeless Chuck Taylor. If you don't understand how or why these are cool as f@#$....then there is no hope for you. You can get them here at the Converse online store, and at fine sneaker retailers everywhere. More pics of the hightops and additional colourways after the jump.
Brixton Fall 2012
He we are again trying to prepare your wardrobe for fall right smack dab in the middle of the dog days of summer. Trust us...you'll thank us later for getting you on top of this sooner than later. Now...we love Brixton. We practically wear one of their hats daily, and we dig their working class hero/biker/skater/surfer vibe, and we look forward to the changing of the seasons to see what they have on tap next. We also like that they put their fashions on practical display in the form of a video lookbook....and in this case, with a hella cool soundtrack using the tune Ghost of a Man by Paul Cary, which incidentally is available here through his Myspace page.
Death Wish Coffee
Hey you...drop that Raging Cheetah energy drink. You want a real boost...have a cup of coffee. A 16 ounce cup of Starbucks has twice the caffeine of most every drinks. Still not satisfied. Try a cup of Death Wish...which is two times stronger than that. We doubt it'll kill you, but we're pretty sure it'll triple your productivity...whatever it is you do. As a bonus...it tastes good too. You can learn more here.
Trailer - Cloud Atlas
Just when you thought the Matrix trilogy was an abstract concept, the Wachowski's, with the aid of Tom Tykwer, have made a movie out of a piece of fiction that literally everyone thought was impossible to capture on film. There is no way we are going to attempt to concisely explain the plot lines, as we think the nearly six minute trailer captures the gravitas better than we ever could. Do to licensing agreements, we are forbidden from posting the actual trailer, but you can go here and watch it for yourself.

Hammarhead HHI Welders Jacket
We know...summer is still in full swing. We should still be talking about shorts, and flip-flops, and bathing suits. However, fall is just around the corner, and if you haven't noticed, the stores are starting to put their summer wears on sale for the impending invasion of the popular fall line. For the best stuff, you must be quick. Hence, it's not even August and we're giving you something to lust after for the cooler months ahead. Purpose built for the motorcycle enthusiast, but cool enough to be everyday wear, we give you the HHI Welder Jacket from Hammarhead. This is our lust worthy piece for the fall. You can see more and get yours here.
Trailer - Big Easy Express
Our words can't tell you anything more than the beautiful trailer above can. Suffice to say it is a concert film/documentary capturing the Mumford & Son, Old Crow Medicine Show and Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros travelling from San Francisco to New Orleans by historic train, and playing shows along the way. Out today on DVD, Blu-ray and for purchase and rental in iTunes.
Zoku Quick Pop Maker
Tis' the season for ice cold treats and inventive ways to satisfy the sweet tooth. Enter the Zoku Quick Pop Maker, an electricity-free ice pop maker that allows you to make striped pops, yogurt pops and flavoured core pops in a BPA-free cool way. Props
What an ingenious idea! Having ourselves had our earbuds drop out in the gym, and then subsequently stepping on one and destroying it, we look back with hindsight wishing we had known about, and thereby spent the $5.99 on these. You can learn more and get yours here.
The Beatles - Tomorrow Never Knows
Just when you thought you had every Beatles record, including the Anthologies and some bootlegs...along comes another. Now, to be more accurate, this is not by any means a release of new material, but a compilation of the real hard charging rockers from the legends. In execution, it's not actually a bad idea, but it is really only for the casual fan. If you have the Beatles recordings already, you could simply make your own version of this...but then you'd be missing out on the cool retro album cover. For your listening pleasure, we give you one of our favourite tracks from the album, "She Said, She Said." Enjoy! Available now through iTunes.
Banksy Does the 2012 Summer Games
You honestly didn't think that the UK could have this massive, and essentially the largest corporate event on the planet and not have their most infamous and socially critical artist turn his gaze unto them. These are starting to pop up in London, and we are really hoping for many more. We love civil disobedience. More pics after the jump.
Mason Shaker Cocktail Shaker
We are loving this Mason Shaker found on Kickstarter. It's the perfect compliment to our mason jar tumbler set. You can see and learn more here.

Band of Horses - Knock, Knock
Every time someone mentions Band of Horses to us, we have this compulsion to poorly sing aloud "In the logbook of the LRC!!!" Not sure why that one lyric has stuck with us...but we're pretty certain that we do it without even a little bit of conscious thought; that Band of Horses has taken over a part of our pre-frontal lobe. It can't be bad news for our OCD then that they have a forthcoming album titled Mirage Rock that is scheduled to drop on September 18th. Enjoy!
2013 Ikea Catalog Gets Interactive
For their new 2013 catalog, ikea was of the opinion that classic paper catalog could be so much more, and they have opted to utilize the fact that we all seem to have some form and smart device in the home; be it a pad, or phone, or whatever. Watch the video to see what we're talking about.
Enjoi Skateboard Decks by Craig & Karl
We just like 'em. Great graphics that'd be a real shame to grind off in the park. They'd make a nice art installation in the home...that is if you collected all seven. What would you call that...a septic? You can see them all here.

Canon EOS M Camera
Canon is finally stepping into the fray that is mirrorless cameras. Think of the Canon EOS M this way...it bridges the gap between a DSLR and a simple and handy point and shoot. We could go on and give you all these specs like 18 megapixels, blah, blah, blah, blah...but whatever. It takes pictures, and takes them rather easily. Our favourite feature...it takes nearly all EF and and EF-S lenses, making this a versatile little number. You can learn more here.

45 Year of AMG - a GearPatrol Photo Essay
We could only dream of being as cool, or in the class of Gearpatrol when it comes to the quality of their posts, or when it comes to the kind of access they get to some of the coolest things in the world. We read every word they post multiple times a day, everyday. Recently, they were lucky enough to be invited to Affalterbach, Germany, and given access to the unveiling of the new AMG SLS GT as well as a sneak peak at the new A45 AMG. Of course...they couldn't go all that way and not spend some time with the historical models that has given AMG the chops it now has. Click the link below and peruse their photo-essay of their recent trip. Whoever they have snapping pics for them over their at GP has a great eye, as the pics are desktop material.

Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee
A brand new web series by Jerry Seinfeld...and yes, it is exactly as it sounds. Pretty candid, and very funny. We give you episode 1, Larry Eats a Pancake, with Larry David, and are very much looking forward to episode 2 with Ricky Gervais.

Trailer - Man of Steel
Personally, we loved the 2006 re-boot of the Superman franchise. Being that, in a way, it was a a sequel to the 80's films made popular by the late Christopher Reeves, as it took place years later after Superman had disappeared for years and was now marking a comeback, Brandon Routh played it perfect for both Clark Kent and Superman, playing the role as an homage to the man that first updated the classic comic book for modern times. If you haven't seen it, we highly, highly recommend giving it a watch, as we think that the critics were wrong in their marginal assessments. Now...since re-booting comic book film franchises seems to be the only thing Hollywood can do, they are again attempting to re-boot Superman. We are a little wary, however after watching the initial trailer above, our skepticism has eased a little. With the direction of Zack Snyder, and producer duties by Christopher Nolan, they appear to be attempting to do for Superman what Chris did for Batman. We really hope it works out.
Marco Stefanelli Brecce Collection
We're going to admit that we don't know much about this designer or his products given that most of the information seems to be in Italian. But we think that these images don't need much explanation as the beauty of each piece is evident regardless of what language you speak. Reclaimed logs with slivers of light coming through...timeless.

DQM Chinook Cooler Bag
A cooler bag is realy a must have for the dog days of summer. We keep one in the trunk as you never know what gourmet treat you're going to come across, and we can't have all those goodies going bad can we? Also, as nice as a classic pick nick basket is, we really prefer to keep our food crisp and chilled, and let's not forget the cocktails, as only ice cold will do. You could zip to Walmart and get a souless and thoughtlessly designed one for a few bucks, but we doubt you'll be proud to walk to the park with one of those...or conversely, you could get a fashionable and quality product like the one above from DQM. You can see, learn and buy here.
Trailer - The Rise and Fall of the Clash
Via Hypebeast: "Directed by Danny Garcia, The Rise and Fall of the Clash tells the sordid tale of the metoric successes and rock bottom nature that is forever attached to the storied English punk ban. Emerging in 1976 as leaders and pioneers of a new wave of english music, a number of "character assassinations" ultimately led the band to dispand depsite their popularity. Dubbed "the only band that matters," it seems only fitting that the Clash should have their story told properly. No release date as of yet, but we'll keep you posted."
Warby Parker Summer Crystals
Taking their inspiration from summer cocktails like the gin and tonic, Warby Parker has released some nice summery eyewear for the second half of the season. The one pictured above is the Rafferty in Aqua Tonic. At $95 for non-prescription and $150 for prescription...we doubt you good do better for the price. You can see and learn more here.
Chocolate Ice Cream with Candied Bacon Bits
With heat across much of North America reaching temps that make the dog days of summer seem like a respite, we all need to search for ways to cool down. You could just run to 7-11 and slurp a 100 ounces of semi-frozen neon sugar water...or, you search for something not near as bad for you and equally, if not more satisfying. There's a reason you scream, I scream, we all scream for ice cream. Sure, store bought is fine...but there is no replacement for home made...and it is not nearly as hard to make as you might think. The Kitchen Ninja (which we should also give credit for the above photo) has served up this decadent little number, and if you haven't had the pleasure of bacon and chocolate, then you truly haven't lived. Of note: no ice cream maker required.
Converse First String 2012
Clean, simple, understated and classic. Not much more to add that the picture doesn't say in spades. Haven has them.
Meet the Superhumans
For whatever reason...the Paralympics always take a backseat the Olympics. However, if you think critically about this, it makes no sense. Wouldn't one rather watch someone with a physical disadvantage overcome what limitations have been imposed upon them and excel at their chosen sport. It is not that impressive when an able bodied person is good at something...why wouldn't they be. What is truly amazing is someone, who more than likely has been told they can't do something, ignores that rubbish advice and does it anyways, and does it at a professional level. Channel 4 in the UK agrees with us, and is presenting an unprecedented 150 hours of live coverage of the London 2012 Paralympic Games. If this promo doesn't make you want to watch, there is something wrong with you. FYI...song playing is Harder Than You Think by the incomparable Public Enemy.

How to Hide Things in Public Places
We have talked about this a lot...but what if the zombie apocalypse started tomorrow? Where would you be? Chances are that you'll be near somewhere that you are everyday whether in or near your favourite coffee joint, on your commute to and from the office, in or around the grocery store. If the shit were to hit the fan then and there, wouldn't it be nice to have an advantage on the troglodytes around you, and have a secret stash of goodies to aid in your survival? We know...totally far fetched, but it still is a pretty fun read.

Oak + Fort Kea Scarf
We've talked about local designers Oak + Fort before and we can't help showcasing another of their great and affordable items. The Kea Scarf is a monochromatic complex patterned scarf that reminds us of X-ray DNA images but still manages to be minimalist and stylish all at the same time. Available on their website.
Hippie Tipi Play Tent
We can't be the only parents who have a child that endeavours to tunnel into blankets, hide under tables and burrow amongst stuffed animals. Life would be simpler, tidier and more stylish if we had the Hippie Tipi in which she could happily hide from us and imagine her day away. Available here.
Yayoi Kusama Whitney Retrospective
83 year old artist Yayoi Kusama is having a retrospective exhibition at the Whitney in New York and is being further celebrated throughout the city by Louis Vuitton in pop up shops and graphic store fronts. One of Japan's most prominent contemporary artists, she is well known for her decades of influence, her close friendship with Andy Warhol and her more recent time spent voluntarily in a mental hospital. We have posted a photo of her installation currently being shown in the lobby of the Whitney called Fireflies on the Water. It beautifully captures her obsession with polka dots and infinite space but should really be experienced if not in person, then through video available after the jump.

The XX - Angels
It's been nearly three years since the XX have graced us with an album of new material. Their self titled debut was very near the top of every critics list the year it dropped, and it garnered them the Mercury Music Prize. We heard rough snippets of new material here and there, but this is the first new, album ready track. The album, coexist, is expected to drop on the 11th of September, and you can even pre-order on iTunes. And if you haven't heard the first album, do yourself a favour and have a listen....you'll be glad you did.
R29 Shops Fleabags Beach Tote
Bent Walnut Picnic Wine Tote
We're always happy to endorse our local Canadian designers and this time we found Teal & Gold really close to home based in Kelowna BC. They have a great portfolio of minimalist, modern furniture and accessories but we have chosen their wine tote since it seems appropriate for the season. Bent walnut surround with a woollen blanket attached with leather straps, this tote will definitely set you apart when you go down to the beach for an after work drink. Available here.

The Walking Dead - Season 3
Yes...it is still three months away, but the Comic-Con just happened in San Diego, and there are no bigger fans of the zombie genre than comic geeks that attend conventions. Knowing this, the producers have rewarded them with a four minute trailer for the convention previewing the new season, and to keep them salivating while they wait. Let us geek out with them for the next four minutes.
Cole Haan Lunargrand (New Colours)
We posted about the Cole Haan Lunargrand a while ago now, and we got a tonne of positive feedback...and a lot of inquiries for purchasing info. You see, we were so early to the party that at that time you couldn't find them online. It has been such a smashing success, combining an exaggerated brogue upper with the Nike Lunarlon sole, that these things have really taken on a life of their own and are now available to the masses. Cole Haan has just dropped some new very fashion-forward colourways, and they are available now via the think below.

A Farewell to Arms: The Hemingway Library Edition
In an 1958 interview, Ernest admitted to re-writing the ending of his famous A Farewell to Arms 39 times. Publishers Simon and Schuster, which absorbed Hemingway's original publisher Scibner, have decided to release a new edition of the literary masterpiece, complete with original manuscripts for the book with alternate passages, along with the afore mentioned alternate endings, and some original artwork. All of this is approved by the estate of the late author, and is meant to draw attention back to the writer as a toiler in his craft, and to steer fans away from his legendary status as a carouser. Available a book retailers everywhere.

Justice - New Lands
We're in a bit of a Justice phase right now. Sure...the tunes are catchy as all hell, but this French duo invests a lot of time in the visual representation of the band as well, from their image being logo based, to their album covers, and of course, the music videos. Very few artists are producing videos that have anything interesting about them, and the video for New Lands is the polar opposite of that. We're not really into sports on the telly, but we would watch every weekend if this baseball/football/roller derby/motorized gladiator sport was televised. Enjoy, and you can pick up their latest album aptly titled Audio, Video, Disco anywhere they sell music.

Mick: The Wild Life & Mad Genius of Jagger
You've read Life by Keith Richards...so not reading Mick would be like having yin with no yang. Although the two rarely see eye to eye, when it comes to song writing and performing, we can only think of a couple other song writing duos that rival them; those being Lennon/McCartney and maybe John/Taupin. And although Keith was the real hard charger of the two, that doesn't mean Mick doesn't have more than his fair share of rockstar moments. The book even addresses that whole David Bowie thing...and if you do not know what we're referring to, you simply must read this book. Available a book retailers, both brick and mortar and virtual, everywhere.
Trailer - Oz The Great & Powerful
Disney is tempting fate with a quasi-rehashing of the Wizard of Oz tale scheduled for a spring 2013 release. Now...f@#$ing around with a classic that is the perfection of the 1939 original film version is not highly advised, but after seeing this teaser trailer we surmise that this is, point of fact, not a remake. Rather, it is an additional tale based in the land of Oz with some familiar characters re-invigorated, and with L. Frank Baum writing 13 additional Oz based books, there is plenty of source material to be exploited. We especially dig the homage to the original in the changing from black & white to colour once in Oz.

Tribal Pattern Leather Clutch
Etsy is a wonderful place, how else would we ever hear of Lithuanian husband and wife design team Coriumi? Inspired by the process of actually making things by hand, they create one of a kind bags and iPad cases with tribal inspired patterns. We especially love the zippered suede pouch shown above and the very affordable price tag that accompanies it. Take a look through their offerings here.

Frank Ocean - Sweet Life
This is off his forthcoming sophomore effort (but really his first official album) Channel Orange, out July 17th. Reviews are piling up, and for the most part they are glowing. We'd like to give much respect to Frank, for the courage it took to open up regarding his sexuality to his fans and the media this past week.
Nike Woven Mayfly TZ
Nike's dropped a nice pair of kicks for the warmer months of the year, offering the legendary performance and design usual of a Nike, but with a breathability previously only available in leather Sonny Crockets. We've shown the Mayfly TZ in a granite colourway, but they also come in black. They are available at finer sneaker retailers everywhere, but we like to get our shoes at Livestock.
Greenpeace - Save the Arctic
If this doesn't bring a tear to your eye, you're dead on the inside. Part of Greenpeace's new campaign to save the Arctic...and you can participate by signing the petition online. Chances are, your government is coming up with new and creative ways to exploit the resources that have been trapped under sea ice for over a millennia, and as citizens we should be our government's conscience. You can learn more, sign the petition, and donate at Greenpeace.org/SaveTheArctic.
Paralesogram by Deus Indonesia
Back when we were youngsters, we had an affinity for the Burton Asym Air snowboard...a asymmetrical board that in theory allowed you to have truer edge hold. The asymmetrical design died out with the hard boot carvers, but the folks at Deus Ex Machina Indonesia have decided to dabble in the asymmetrical design sphere for that of a surfboard. Again, in theory, this design should allow the rider to have better frontside control. We say whatever...even if it doesn't do what it's supposed to, it is one hell of a good looking piece of kit. C'mon it's been at least a couple of weeks since we last posted about jewellery so we'll keep this short. A deconstructed bullet with thread art mixing the soft and hard resulting in a great and unique necklace. Available here.
Dedon Nestrest
We were talking with a friend today about the value of hammocks and how great they are for camping and lounging in general. That got us thinking and searching for the ideal hammock. Now we know that the Dedon Nestrest we are showing here is technically not a hammock, but can you think of a more comfortable hanging bed? OK so not great to haul camping but who needs to get away to the wilderness when this is hanging in the backyard? Available here.

R.I.P. - Sergio Pininfarina
Legendary automotive designer Sergio Pininfarina passed away at the age of 85 on Monday. He was famous in automotive circles for the design work he performed for many, many car companies, but is most famous for the work he did with Ferrari. At one time or another, you have seen his work and lusted after and coveted it...cars like the 288 GTO, the Testarossa, and the legendary F40 and Enzo. It goes without saying that he will be sorely missed, and we would be remiss for not thanking him for a million daydreams.
Matilda - Goose Island Beer Company
Belgium is home to the best beers in the world...and the Belgian Style Ale represents the peak of the brewers art. Sophisticated brewing techniques, yeast blends, and unique flavouring elements have elevated the Belgian Style Ale to the level of fine wines. While spending some time in the Chicago area, we were tipped off by a friend and brewmaster that we should be drinking Matilda by the Goose Island Beer Company. While we are very familiar with the imported Belgian variety, we were blown away by the quality of Matilda. The imports have nothing on Goose Island, and as a matter of fact, they are one up on la Belgique with a name as simple and good as Matilda. Down side, we can't get it where we reside, and to that, we are bummed.
The Samurai Trilogy Criterion Collection Blu-ray
There's a downside in this for us.....we have to go out buy this all over again as the DVD copies just won't do any longer. If you haven't seen these...come on already. This is requisite viewing for the film geeks in all of us, and makes the Hollywood fare from the 50's seem quaint. All three, Musashi Miyamoto, Duel at Ichijoji Temple, and Duel at Ganryu Island have been digitally restored beyond what was originally imagined for them. These are the best way to get acquainted with the genre, and then you can graduate to the epics in Seven Samurai and Ran, but don't forget The Hidden Fortress, Yojimbo, and Sanjuro. Available at fine media retailers everywhere.

Designed by Dominic Wilcox, these bowls are one of a kind created with historically accurate figurines from the English civil war melted down. In order to celebrate the 10th anniversary of this creation, it is now available in black or red and comes with a loose set of soldiers for additional fun. Available here.

West Elm Kuba Crescent Bench
In anticipation of our somewhat limited variety of furniture stores suddenly expanding here in Vancouver with our first ever West Elm store, we have been pretty excited about their newest collections. We chose the Kuba Crescent Bench in a batik fabric because of it's 50's modern styling combined with an African patterned cloth that makes it pretty unique especially for a more mainstream store. Check out the bench and the rest of their offerings here.
