A Journey Like No Other - The Orient Express
Originally posted on 13 November 2011. Yes...the Orient Express exists. It's not just a figment of Agatha Christie's murderous imagination. They happen to be a series of luxury trains and affiliated hotels all over the world for the more discerning and well healed traveller. We're in love with the idea of a train trip, and it makes us happy that there is a business model out there that still relies on the railroad that isn't natural resource or commuter based. The above short video is regarding the Hiram Bingham train trip in the high Andes of Peru, one that travels from Cuzco to Machu Picchu, past lush and soaring mountains and along the wild Urubamba river. The video, funny enough, spotlights and romanticizes the adventure that ensues after missing the train, which to us sells a walking adventure, and not the train. That being said, the hotel at the end of the journey sure looks sweet...a great place to relax after a tough days hike.
