Hip Hop has had a cultural impact like nothing before it except for maybe the inception of Rock 'n' Roll in the 50's and 60's. It has pervaded not just the music we listen to, but every aspect of life; from the way we speak, the way we dress, the cars we drive, the dreams we aspire to, and in short, has become the dominating force and much of pop culture. The patriarch of OG west coast rap, Ice-T, has decided that it deserves a more formal examination of what Hip Hop means, and in that he is releasing a very thorough and entertaining documentary. Featuring interviews with nearly everyone important in rap, from both today and yesterday, Something From Nothing: The Art of Rap proves to be the visual tome exploring hip hop from the mouths of the pioneers themselves. Out June 15th.
