Despite a bit of a cursed location, Ensemble restaurant in downtown Vancouver is more than making a successful go of it. We visited last weekend for a friend's birthday and were pleasantly surprised with this fairly new 80 seat restaurant and all that it has to offer. With Canada's Top Chef Dale MacKay at the helm, the menu is inventive and hearty and the staff warm and friendly. We started with the cornmeal crusted scallops which was an ample appetizer including tamarind date puree and cauliflower. The flavours were complex and daring and we did everything but lick the plate. We followed that up with the beef shin and fritz which was a nice humble pairing of tender meat and fries. We have to admit we were too full to order dessert but the staff was kind enough to serve complimentary warm citrus Madeline's which were passed around at lightening speed. All in all a great experience and just one more restaurant serving delicious food in a city that seemingly won't stop producing amazing culinary adventures. More pics after the jump.
