While exploring the South Surrey/Cloverdale area this weekend, we decided to stop by a well known bonsai garden center called Japan Bonsai. Recommended to us by friends and family who regularly take their bonsai for pruning and seasonal maintenance, this vast nursery has over 100,000 bonsai ranging from seedlings to 600 year old trees. Owner and founder Tak Yamaura is also the president of the BC Bonsai Society and personally oversees everything from the daily pruning to classes, demonstrations and lectures on this ancient art. We loved the escape this 10 acre nursery offers and were constantly amazed at the creative and serene bonsai around every corner. It would be hard to choose from all the species such as Japanese Black Pine, Shinpaku Junipers, Tsukumo Cypress...not that we could tell what's what necessarily but owning a miniature forest is weirdly appealing. More pics after the jump.
